Let's paint Bauhaus ....

This November I was given the exciting opportunity to lead a project for the charity HVH Arts.

To start with I created this lovely advert for them, using my favourite go to, Canva. It actually wasn't needed for their advertising in the end, but I thought, why not include it in this blog post, as it shows part of my planning process..

HVH Arts is a company that I've long admired, ever since I found out about them through our son's school, Gospel Oak Primary in Camden, London. They offer free activities over the summer school holidays, for both primary and secondary school children, and given that this is a 6 weeks period, it is a huge help to parents in the local community.

We booked our son on a range of their one week courses including Dance, Graffiti, and Mixed Media. To watch him smile and be so thrilled about the work he was getting involved with made me so proud as a parent. At the end of the holidays they have a big summer event and exhibition, that brings together all the participants and teachers - my little champ was very happy about having his art celebrated and displayed on the wall for all to see.

I remember growing up in the midlands with my sisters, and one summer in particular we attended this really cool play scheme. We watched hair being braided and even had our hair plaited with brightly coloured beads woven in. We also had a go at tie dye and messy art, badge making and jewellry. I can't fully recall exactly what we created now, but looking back, what I do remember is the general buzz of experimenting while learning and just having a go. When I stepped into the world of HVH Arts, this bought back these memories, and was like a step back in time.

Meeting the team at HVH arts - Dee, Debbi, Shoda, Isla, Trisha, Zoe, Harley - has been great. These are all amazing individuals with such a passion and zeal to help the local community thrive, and to encourage young people to grow and develop with such confidence. With general living costs increasing all the time, it is so impressive that HVH Arts is able to offer such incredible content and courses for free.

As a working independant freelance artist (and small business owner), it's not been an easy ride to find consistent work. My husband and I both wanted to be able to spend as much time with our son as possible - which has meant sacrificing full time work. As a result we both juggle part time jobs to enable us to have as much quality family time as possible - so the free classes offered by HVH Arts have been a godsend to us.
